Magento conversion tracking analytics

When it comes to magento it is a very delicate and detailed system in terms of management and editing the template code in order to achieve the right outcomes for your e-commerce store or organisation you are working for,

One of the big challanges i have come across is finding the right solution to implement google analytics into your magento web store not only on the analytics leve but also on the goal conversion and e-commerce keywords ROI investment returns.

Lets look at how to implement this.

Enabling Analytics in Magento

  1. Log into your Magento admin, select “Configuration” under the “System” drop down menu.
  2. Once in the Configuration section select “Google API” under the “Sales” section in the left menu.
  3. In this section you will be able to configure your Magento store with various Google features, the top one should be Google Analytics.
  4. Open the Google Analytics tab, enable it using the dropdown menu and enter your Analytics account number (this should be something like UA – 146584161-1).
  5. Once that is complete click the “Save Config” button on the top right and “Presto” you have just set up your Magento store to be tracked through your Google Analytics account.

This will setup your magento website for the minimal requirements.

Next you may need to setup your website for goal conversion.

Here you can add up to 4 goals for your site, click on “Add goal” for set 1. This is where we are going to set up our goal to track purchases.

  1. Give the goal a name.
  2. Make sure it is active.
  3. Set goal position(Set 1, Goal 1 if you don’t have any goals already).
  4. Goal Type – URL Destination. (Depending on how your store is setup with modifications or ajax plugins)
  5. Match Type – Head Match
  6. Goal URL – You may be using paypal, google checkout, credit cards, 2checkout and the list goes on, make sure you get the url correct with the checkout phase in order to get your your google funnel correct.
  7. I wouldn’t check the “Case Sensitive” box.
  8. Goal Value – For me I uses the average profit per order I expect to have but this is optional. (yeah but see how you go)

 

This is the process for magento carts, if you use onestepcheckout be sure to correct the URL’s.
