Well it turns out you can dramatically increase your CTR rate on search engine results with Yoast SEO structured content blocks.
I created a page that has a CTR rate of 28% according to Google web master tools and it isn’t even ranking in the top 3 spots for the keyword I optimized it for.
And in today’s post I’m going to show you what that page is.. and exactly how to add FAQ schema in WordPress with Gutenberg.

What does schema markup WordPress Yoast look like in Google?
You may have seen a FAQ schema example in the search results, these alter the way search results look based on the landing page of the website.
As a website owner if you are savvy enough you can implement any kind of schema to alter the way your websites page presents data in Google. Some examples of schema results include:
- Book schema
- Breadcrumbs
- Courses
- Critic reviews
- Events
- Occupations
These are just a few examples of of you can use schema for SEO.
In this post we will be focusing on two types of SEO schema. HowTO schema and FAQ schema. These are two implementations you can apply to your website through Yoast SEO structured data content blocks.

What is FAQ schema?
FAQ schema of a frequently asked questions schema is a way to structure your articles questions in answers in a way that it will show as drop down menu’s in Google.
If you have an FAQ on your website and have not marked it up with schema it will still show up in Google it just won’t be formatted properly.
When you implement a Yoast FAQ or HowTo schema block on your website it will show up in Google Webmaster Tools in the side menu.
Hint: If you add Google FAQ schema to your articles you will be eligible for Google assistant and voice search.
What options are there for FAQ schema WordPress?
Using the Yoast SEO structured content blocks is not the only way to add FAQ schema in Wordpress.
We have found it to be the easiest option with proof that Google picks it up quickly.

What is FAQ schema SEO?
FAQ schema SEO is a new JSON-LD schema generator that can quickly enable you to have structured content data search results in Google. If you wanted to SEO optimize your FAQ schema you would structure your questions and answers around specific keywords related to your landing page which focus on user intent.
However to make your web pages more accessible to everyone, ensure that every page is tagged with relevant keywords, then the search engines will pick up your FAQ schema or HowTo schema based on the keywords.
From our experience the more reasons you can give Google to crawl your blog post the better. This concept has certainly worked for me.
Using Gutenberg FAQ schema to improve your websites SEO
There are certain steps you should take to ensure each of your websites pages are properly optimized. To ensure that you use the FAQ schema content block in Gutenberg successfully ensure that primary keywords feature in the first paragraph of the answer for each FAQ question.
You should do this in a subtle and intelligent way by weaving the words into your copy.
Yoast SEO structured data content blocks are snippets data blocks you can add with the new content editor called Gutenberg for WordPress.
It includes the HowTo and FAQ structured data blocks which will add the necessary code to your content to that it gives you that approved green tick when you test it on Google’s structured data testing tool.
Yoast schema is incredibly important for your web pages. As search engines become more advanced at reading data, structured data blocks can help Google understand what your websites page is all about.
It also helps in the future with voice assisted search results with tools like Alexa and Google home.
Yoast scheme optimized entities such as people, places and things and how they relate to each other so it makes much more sense for Google.
As you already know on some search results in Google you will see there is a dropdown with “People also asked” which features relevant questions which can be FAQ’s, blog posts, videos and more. These are present on 80% of Google searches. In order to have a better chance of having your content featured here you need FAQ schema mark-up.

How do I add schema markup in WordPress with Gutenberg?
If you wondering how to add FAQ schema in WordPress, open your WordPress admin page, when you have your blog edit page open click on the plus sign underneath the paragraph from within Gutenberg.
Search for HowTo or FAQ and the schema block will show up.
Inset the required information asked for from the block. This would include a title, answer and image. For the how to schema block it will ask you for information such as “time to complete”. You should fill in as much information as possible.

Is there a Yoast WordPress plugins for FAQ schema?
The Gutenberg content editor will have Yoast FAQ and HowTo schema blocks pre installed if you have the Yoast plugin installed on your website.
Search for FAQ when adding a new block to find the FAQ schema option in WordPress. We have found this to be the easiest WordPress plugins for FAQ schema available.
What is FAQ schema testing?
FAQ schema testing involves adding your FAQ schema data block in WordPress, saving your content then using the Google structured data testing tool to validate that it will be processed by Google.
Once Google has picked up your schema markup you can view the error log in Webmaser tools to get a visual representation of what you need to update to get things valid.
You can also use the Google structured data testing tool to validate all of your pages that have schema markup embeded in them.

As a quick summary on this post, which can be quite daunting here are a few short snappy guidelines to give your schema marked up blog post a bit of an SEO boost.
- Keep your page title to 55 Characters
- Keep your meta description to 155 Characters and include your focus keyword
- Keep your body text to between 1500 – 3000 words.
- Use 5 – 15 keyword phrases and use them up to 3 times with variations on your main keyword
- Add a minimum of 3 images with alt tags to your article
- Summarize your content into a video with Lumen5 and post it within the article.
- Make sure your websites sitemaps are up to date.
